Merry Christmas…

Okay, so even the Merry Christmas is two days late, but I have been very busy. For those of you who are not aware, I have been going through major changes at work. Our practice manager of eight years was offered a job he could not refuse, so for the last two and a half months I have been working a lot. I have been promoted and am the new practice manager, in the last two months I have been working ten to twelve hour days and working on the weekends as well. That leaves very little time for blogging.

Things are starting to settle down some and my life should begin to return to normal. Our Christmas was wonderful, everyone got what they wanted and more. We had a wonderful holiday together as a family. We are all in love with our new tablets, in fact everyone is on their tablets as I type this blog, you know I am blogging on my mine. What is Christmas without getting some new technological gadgets.

I hope you all had a terrific holiday with great times with family and friends.

I too am guilty…

Being an Agnostic and not having much use for Christianity or any other religion, I find myself guilty of lumping groups together. Mainly, when it comes to ultra conservatives and the religious right. I have on more than one occasion used the term Christian right, and perhaps that was incorrect. This was brought to my attention this evening while discussing an article about Perry and his little meeting of anti-gay and anti-abortion peers.

While these people claim to be Christians, it seems to me they are anything but. While they are members of the religious community, some would argue their status as Christians. They send a message of hate and intolerance, they do not preach love and forgiveness as the Bible says. They fail to follow the words and preachings of their own God.

I know a lot of Christians, both gay and straight. None of them follow this line of fear and bigotry, even those that don’t condone homosexuality or abortion, they know it is not their place to judge. Judgement will come from their God, until then people should live their lives.

So, to all my Christian friends, my apologies for lumping all of you in with these halfwit imbiciles, that was never my intention. I am human and most of you know, I will admit when I make a mistake. From now on I will refer to these people as the religious right, because I do not feel that they deserve to be called Christians.

That’s it for now, I could go on, but am blogging from my phone and that is not the easiest way to do it.

Hurricane Katia…

is going to go north of us and we are very thankful for that. However, starting tomorrow we should be seeing some good wave action starting at some of the beaches. I have full intent on spending some time at Hull Bay this weekend to get some pictures and video. I am seriously looking forward to spending some time at the beach! Who knows maybe we’ll take the dogs to the beach with us, that could be fun since Chino has never been and Mocha is terrified of the water.

Okay, that’s it. I don’t have anything else to say at the moment other than…

It’s Friday on a holiday weekend which means three days off! Woot!

Enjoy!

Facebook Law in Missouri

The law, which has been nicknamed the Facebook law, prohibits teachers from having exclusive communications with students over non-work Internet sites. Students are defined as anyone under 18 who attend or used to attend the school where the teacher works.

via Missouri teacher sues state over ‘Facebook law,’ says she can’t contact her own child online | The Lookout – Yahoo! News.

Okay, I don’t know if I am blogging this because of the article itself or because of the stupidity and audacity of some of the comments. I will start by saying this is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. This country has bigger things to worry about than whether or not a teacher talks to a student on Facebook.

Here is my thinking on this whole situation.

1. Anyone can friend anyone on a social network. The government has no business making laws dictating who can communicate with who. It’s not illegal for the teacher to talk to the student at the grocery store or McDonald’s, so why is Facebook any different.

2. If the child is under 18, then the parents SHOULD be monitoring their facebook account anyway. If you are a parent and not keeping track of what your child is doing online, then that is bad parenting, but that is another blog topic.

3. For those that believe this woman is just seeking attention, go get a life. She has every right to be pissed off and she has every right to contact her child on Facebook.

I interact with our daughter on Facebook and even with some of her friends. This allows us to have fun, open communication, and allows us as parents to monitor what she does online. I think the state of Missouri has lost it’s damn mind.

I commend the teacher that wants to participate in a students life, half the teachers don’t care anymore, they are over worked and under paid. They are jaded and teaching has become more of a job, not a passion, and that is a sad thing. I had three teachers when I was in school that gave me their phone numbers, they were available for homework questions or if I just needed to talk. Not all adults who interact with kids are perverts.

Okay, I got sidetracked with something else and have completely lost my train of thought, but I think you get the idea. Enough is enough, start worrying about the things that are truly important like the economy, jobs, and health care. Leave social networking and people’s private lives alone.

Video Page

I very quickly made a video page and threw some links on it. It will take you to my Qik site where you can view all my videos. I also put in links for some of the newer videos from Tropical Storm Irene as she passed through here yesterday.

This page will be a bit better when I have time to work on it and I will actually embed the videos into the page instead of linking to my outside service. Hope you all enjoy the videos.

Oh yeah and the link to the video page in case you missed it is at the top right hand side of the page.
