China’s ‘one child’ policy

…You share a similar concern here in China. You have no safety net. Your policy has been one which I fully understand–I’m not second-guessing–of one child per family. The result being that you’re in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people. Not sustainable.

via Biden issues clarification on China’s ‘one child’ policy comments | The Ticket – Yahoo! News.

I know this policy is not new and has been around for a while. I just wanted to comment on Biden’s comment. The comment that is stirring the pot is above for you to read. I have read the comment and I don’t take it as Biden condoning China’s policy. He is simply stating that he understands why they have taken the steps that they have, but the position is not sustainable. In other words it isn’t going to work.

I think the media and conservatives are taking a simple statement and twisting it into something it is not. The other side of this is China is China, who the hell do American’s think they are trying to tell someone else how to run their country? America loves to stick it’s big nose where it doesn’t belong, and they love to tell other people how they should live their lives. News flash, it is none of your business.

Do I agree with the ‘one child’ policy? No, I don’t agree with forced abortion or forced sterilization, but it is none of my business. China has a huge population control problem, this is their solution to that problem. Is there a better way, maybe, but who are we to decide? Like Americans are fond of saying, if you don’t like it, leave. They can go to another country and ask for refugee status, and increase the population of those countries.

Americans are already pissed off about immigrants and not enough work for the American people, let’s take in pregnant refugees from China and put them on welfare because we don’t agree with how they run their country. Yeah that will really help solve our economic crisis.

I hope you are pissed off by this,  as this is a human rights issue, but again America needs to take care of America. We don’t pay our politicians to fix the  problems of the rest of the world.

Facebook Law in Missouri

The law, which has been nicknamed the Facebook law, prohibits teachers from having exclusive communications with students over non-work Internet sites. Students are defined as anyone under 18 who attend or used to attend the school where the teacher works.

via Missouri teacher sues state over ‘Facebook law,’ says she can’t contact her own child online | The Lookout – Yahoo! News.

Okay, I don’t know if I am blogging this because of the article itself or because of the stupidity and audacity of some of the comments. I will start by saying this is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. This country has bigger things to worry about than whether or not a teacher talks to a student on Facebook.

Here is my thinking on this whole situation.

1. Anyone can friend anyone on a social network. The government has no business making laws dictating who can communicate with who. It’s not illegal for the teacher to talk to the student at the grocery store or McDonald’s, so why is Facebook any different.

2. If the child is under 18, then the parents SHOULD be monitoring their facebook account anyway. If you are a parent and not keeping track of what your child is doing online, then that is bad parenting, but that is another blog topic.

3. For those that believe this woman is just seeking attention, go get a life. She has every right to be pissed off and she has every right to contact her child on Facebook.

I interact with our daughter on Facebook and even with some of her friends. This allows us to have fun, open communication, and allows us as parents to monitor what she does online. I think the state of Missouri has lost it’s damn mind.

I commend the teacher that wants to participate in a students life, half the teachers don’t care anymore, they are over worked and under paid. They are jaded and teaching has become more of a job, not a passion, and that is a sad thing. I had three teachers when I was in school that gave me their phone numbers, they were available for homework questions or if I just needed to talk. Not all adults who interact with kids are perverts.

Okay, I got sidetracked with something else and have completely lost my train of thought, but I think you get the idea. Enough is enough, start worrying about the things that are truly important like the economy, jobs, and health care. Leave social networking and people’s private lives alone.

Michele Bachmann? I just don’t get it – CNN.com

Romney’s appeal I get. He’s a former governor who has run before and comes from a political family. But Bachmann’s? I just can’t figure it out.

This is what I have been saying people! I don’t understand how this woman is tied or leading the polls. It makes absolutely no sense to me. Are there other sane, rational people in this country?

India’s Health Minister Calls Homosexuality ‘Unnatural’ – NYTimes.com

“Unfortunately, there is this disease in the world and in this country where men are having sex with other men, which is completely unnatural and shouldn’t happen, but it does,” Ghulam Nabi Azad

via India’s Health Minister Calls Homosexuality ‘Unnatural’ – NYTimes.com.

This is what bothers me about people, everyone just wants to throw their uninformed and uneducated opinion into the mix. I am not knocking the man for his beliefs, he can believe anything he chooses to believe, but to be a public official and make such a statement at a public forum is wrong.

This statement was made at an HIV/AIDS conference, now how can you be the Minister of Health and not know that HIV/AIDS is primarily spread by heterosexual sex in your country?

“Unprotected sex between heterosexuals is responsible for 87 percent of all new cases transmitted, according to India’s National AIDS Control Program.”

Ignorance can no longer be an excuse…

Todd Akin: ‘At The Heart Of Liberalism Is Really A Hatred Of God’

Todd Akin: ‘At The Heart Of Liberalism Is Really A Hatred Of God’.

Akin: Well, I think NBC has a long record of being very liberal and at the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God and a belief that government should replace God. And so they’ve had a long history of not being at all favorable toward many of things that have been such a blessing to our country.

Really? Are you serious?

First of all the word’s under God did not even appear in the Pledge of Allegiance until 1954. This country was founded on a primary principle and belief, freedom of religion. Not only are we guaranteed freedom of religion, but we also have freedom FROM religion. Our founding father’s knew that there should be a separation of church and state, religion and politics do not mix.

Maybe the GOP should become it’s own religion, dictating how this country should worship, as well as trying to dictate what God himself said and believed. Last time I checked, none of them had a face to face with God, I didn’t see an interview on Fox News giving us the ins and outs.

I’m a liberal and I am Agnostic, so how can I hate something I don’t even know exists? The only hatred I have is for out right stupidity, and I can’t even classify that has hate, it really is more pity than anything else. I live by what I feel is a just moral code. I believe in honesty, treating others with respect and dignity, and I follow basic moral guidelines as to what is right and wrong.

I have friends who believe in God, friends that believe in Buddha, and friends who are Atheists. I do not judge them for what they believe and in turn they don’t judge me. To single out a group of people and say that they have a hatred for God is absolutely absurd. That is like me saying that all Christians are homophobic bigots. Liberals don’t think that the government should replace God; however I do think it is fair to say that God does not belong in government.

You can say this is a Christian nation all you want, but not everyone in this nation is a Christian, it is why we are called a melting pot, we promise people freedom without persecution for their beliefs. This country was founded by those fleeing religious persecution, how can we as a nation become the very thing that we ran from in the first place?

Separate church and state, remove organized religion from our government, go back to basic rights and freedoms for all, not for only those deemed appropriate by various religious groups, then maybe ignorant statements like this wouldn’t be the talk of the day from politicians and journalists and we could focus on things that really matter.

Just my two cents…
