Todd Akin: ‘At The Heart Of Liberalism Is Really A Hatred Of God’

Todd Akin: ‘At The Heart Of Liberalism Is Really A Hatred Of God’.

Akin: Well, I think NBC has a long record of being very liberal and at the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God and a belief that government should replace God. And so they’ve had a long history of not being at all favorable toward many of things that have been such a blessing to our country.

Really? Are you serious?

First of all the word’s under God did not even appear in the Pledge of Allegiance until 1954. This country was founded on a primary principle and belief, freedom of religion. Not only are we guaranteed freedom of religion, but we also have freedom FROM religion. Our founding father’s knew that there should be a separation of church and state, religion and politics do not mix.

Maybe the GOP should become it’s own religion, dictating how this country should worship, as well as trying to dictate what God himself said and believed. Last time I checked, none of them had a face to face with God, I didn’t see an interview on Fox News giving us the ins and outs.

I’m a liberal and I am Agnostic, so how can I hate something I don’t even know exists? The only hatred I have is for out right stupidity, and I can’t even classify that has hate, it really is more pity than anything else. I live by what I feel is a just moral code. I believe in honesty, treating others with respect and dignity, and I follow basic moral guidelines as to what is right and wrong.

I have friends who believe in God, friends that believe in Buddha, and friends who are Atheists. I do not judge them for what they believe and in turn they don’t judge me. To single out a group of people and say that they have a hatred for God is absolutely absurd. That is like me saying that all Christians are homophobic bigots. Liberals don’t think that the government should replace God; however I do think it is fair to say that God does not belong in government.

You can say this is a Christian nation all you want, but not everyone in this nation is a Christian, it is why we are called a melting pot, we promise people freedom without persecution for their beliefs. This country was founded by those fleeing religious persecution, how can we as a nation become the very thing that we ran from in the first place?

Separate church and state, remove organized religion from our government, go back to basic rights and freedoms for all, not for only those deemed appropriate by various religious groups, then maybe ignorant statements like this wouldn’t be the talk of the day from politicians and journalists and we could focus on things that really matter.

Just my two cents…
